OUR PHILANTHROPIC VENTURES
Our Foundation is passionate about giving back to our community. Through charitable and scientific donations and grants, we aim to improve the health and knowledge for the people we serve.
At the Midwest Cardiovascular Research and Education Foundation, we are dedicated to advancing cardiovascular health through a variety of philanthropic endeavors.
Our ongoing initiatives, such as the Indigent Medication Program, IUSM Scholarship, and Research and Science grants, exemplify our commitment to providing continuous support for patients and the medical community. Additionally, our past contributions reflect our sustained effort to improve cardiovascular health and raise awareness about heart disease.
Each of these efforts underscores our mission to enhance the well-being of our community through dedicated care, education, and research.
IUSM Scholarship
Each year, we identify one or two 3rd or 4th year medical students at the Indiana University School of Medicine to receive a scholarship. This non-need and non-academic scholarship is awarded to students that demonstrate superior empathy and communication skills, and possess a passion for the practice of medicine.
American Heart Association Go Red for Women
We have provided financial support to this initiative to raise awareness about heart disease in women.
Basic Science Grant
We provide funding for area students and researchers in their pursuit of furthering our understanding of science and medicine. To date these funds have supported students working at IU School of Medicine South Bend and the University of Notre Dame.
Indigent Medication Program
Funds are provided to area hospitals to supply cardiac medications at discharge for the uninsured and underinsured in our communities. This provides a bridge for patients until they can access long term resources, helping prevent nonadherence and readmissions.
Heart Reach Michiana
HeartReach Michiana was started by Dr. Walter Halloran with the goal of purchasing and placing AEDs into our communities. We partnered with HeartReach in fundraising endeavors and served as board members and speakers for the educational events.
Northern Indiana Regional Science Fair
In order to nurture the interest in the sciences, we have provided award funding for students participating in the regional science fair.
AED Donation
We have purchased AEDs to place in area non-profit organizations with the goal of access to this life saving early intervention.
Have a Heart Foundation Donation
Funds were provided in support of the cardiovascular program at Elkhart General Hospital, with prominent heart sculptures designed to raise awareness of heart disease within the community.
ALS Therapy Development Foundation
In honor of a local physician, we have donated to support the research and treatment of ALS.
